Mens Autumn/Winter Trends for 2006
|
There is a new dress code for men this year, the shift has gone back towards a more structured look. This year we will see the return of the suit, a phenomenon not seen since the 1980s. The suit has made a leap from the boardroom onto the streets, bars and clubs. A surge in the market for male grooming products and services, together with dressed up male celebrities in the spotlight, has increased the interest in tailoring.
The tailored jacket is the key item and the most effective way of updating a man's silhouette. The look that we all loved this summer, blazer with jeans, continues into winter but with a soft washed feel, you can continue wearing it over a hooded top to give it a dressed down feel - or a band t-shirt for sexing it up on a night out.
Tweeds will play a lead role, and traditional men's suiting cloths like flannel return in all different shades of grey from metallic to deep plummey tones. Ways to instantly update your wardrobe are mixing a patterned tie and shirt, V-neck sweaters, slim ties (especially ones in different textures and fabrics like wool), slim-fit cardigans in muted tones, waistcoats, cigarette-slim pants, velvet jackets, and short raincoats and coats.
For the man that likes the brighter side of life, the 'neon' look could be a better option, this theme contrasts with the natural handmade fabrics and styles. It draws influence from performance sportswear and clashing colour.
Grey is also making a HUGE come back in all different hues ranging from metallic tones of light steel through to charcoal. For a more feminine feel, go for brown, which continues as an autumn staple, and we see peacock tones in velvet and laden greens in tweed, damson, plum, and deep purple tones.
To get this look go for reversible garments in bonded fabrics, sport stripes, polo and rugby shirts, mesh panels, skiwear, classic hooded sweatshirts in grey marl with fluorescent zips and trims, tracksuit pants and jockey bomber jackets. It's very important to be careful with this look - you don't want to look like a chav that's been paint splattered, but a fashion saavy man that's not afraid to express himself through colour.
